Women’s Basketball bounces back with a win over the Bears

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 18, 2023) - The Point University Women's Basketball team returned to the court for a Saturday afternoon home nonconference game against former Appalachian Athletic Conference foe in Truett-McConnell University where the Skyhawks cruised past the Bears with a final score of 52-32.  

Shanbriah Rule got the Skyhawks going with the first score of the game which was followed by a layup from Ky'Leo Worriels. Worriels added to Point's lead with a mid-range nothing-but-net jumper. The Bears kept it close with layups and jump shots and tied the game with a score of 8-8. The Skyhawks started to catch fire as Point added an 11-0 run which began with a layup from Shakira Wilson. Mataea Boyd followed with a layup off the turnover of the Bears and Antonia Pittman followed on the next possession with a three-pointer. Ky'Leo Worriels added the last two layups of the first quarter to end off with a 19-8 lead. Point's defense continued to wreak havoc for Truett-McConnell as the Skyhawks only allowed three points in the second quarter. Ky'Leo Worriels and Mataea Boyd added the first two baskets of the second period. Mirial Cannon followed with a smooth mid-range jump shot to bring the score to 25-11. Antonia Pittman added two points from the charity stripe to bring Point's lead to 27-11 at the half.  

Mataea Boyd scored the first four points for the Skyhawks to open the second half which increased the Skyhawks' lead to 20. Boyd followed with a three-pointer to bring the score 34-11. The Bears responded with a jumper by Alysee Dobbs to halt the run but the Skyhawks continued to bring the energy as Mataea Boyd added another score. Point's lead increased to 43-15 as Shanbriah Rule added the following three scores. Ananda Hughley's catch-and-shoot ability was put on display as she knocked down the three-pointer to have the Skyhawks leading 46-15 to go into the final period. Shakira Wilson added a three-pointer in the fourth quarter which was followed by a layup from Ananda Hughley to end the game with a 52-32 final score.

Mataea Boyd led with 15 Points, seven rebounds, and one steal. Ky'Leo Worriels followed with 10 Points, 14 Rebounds, four blocks, and three steals. Shanbriah Rule added nine points, three rebounds, and one steal.
