Point Softball falls to the Nighthawks in Regular Season Finale

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (Apr. 27, 2024) - The Point University Softball Team returned to the field for their final regular season road Southern States Athletic Conference Doubleheader against Thomas University where the Skyhawks fell to Thomas in a sweep. 

Game One (7-6, Loss) 

The Skyhawks opened with Tia Coleman reaching first with a fielder's choice which helped Hannah Phillips advance home for the first run. The Nighthawks responded with a home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 1-1. Thomas followed with an unearned run from an error on third base to take the lead. Two RBI singles from the Nighthawks extended their lead to 4-1. The following two innings saw Thomas add two more runs to give the Nighthawks their biggest lead with a score of 6-1. The Skyhawks opened the top of the seventh with a walk from Skye Loftin and singles from Caylee Quarles along with Mackenzie Diaz. Hannah Phillips followed with an RBI single to left field to advance Caylee Quarles home for a run. The Skyhawks continued to show life as Brooke Burkett added a three-RBI double to cut into Thomas' lead with a score of 6-5. Kacy Patridge's RBI single to right field tied the game at six to go in the bottom of the seventh. Point did not a run the bottom of the inning to advance the game to the eighth inning. Ramsey Clark and Brooke Burkett added two hits in the top of the eighth but the Skyhawks were unable to add a run. Thomas finished the bottom of the inning with a walkoff RBI single to take the win with a final score of 7-6. 

Game Two (8-0, Loss) 

Thomas opened Game two with the first run from an RBI single to lead 1-0. Point looked to respond at bat but a groundout, fly out and pop up ended the inning with three quick outs. The Nighthawks added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning to bring the score to 4-0. A sacrifice fly, two-RBI double, and RBI single from the Nighthawks gave the Nighthawks an eight-run lead. The Skyhawks were unable to add a run in Game Two which ended the game in five innings for the sweep.

The Skyhawks have wrapped up regular season play and will their attention to the SSAC Tournament in Decatur, Alabama at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex against UT Southern at 10:00 A.M. Central time on Thursday, May 2nd.
