Point Softball prevails in walk off fashion to split with Brewton-Parker

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 24, 2024) - The Point University Softball team returned to the field for a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader against Brewton-Parker College where the split with the Barons. Brewton-Parker took the win in Game One with a final score of 5-0 and the Skyhawks won Game Two with a final score of 4-3. 

Game One (5-0, Loss) 

The Barons opened the first inning with the momentum as a single to center field, a stolen base, and a batter being walked set the stage. Brewton-Parker followed with a three-run homer to take the lead 3-0. The Skyhawks looked to gain some ground as Wellsley Henderson singled to right field which advanced Savanna Bryant to second base. Brewton-Parker held off the Skyhawks as Point ended the second inning with two runners left on base. The Barons extended their lead as a run was scored to bring their lead 4-0. The fifth inning brought the Barons' final run as a double to left field scored a runner on third. Point tallied three more hits through the final three innings but would be unable to score any runs to lose Game One with a final score of 5-0. 

Game Two (4-3, Win) 

The Skyhawks opened with Hannah Phillips leading off with a single near first base. A fielding error from the Barons helped advance Ramsey Clark on base. Tia Coleman's single to center field scored both Clark and Phillips home to put Point ahead 2-0 after the first inning. The Barons looked to get a rhythm going at bat but would be unable to get going. The action picked up for Brewton-Parker by opening the fourth inning with a home run to add their first run. The game continued to reach a point of drama as the Barons added four hits and two runs which included two singles to left field to score runners home. The seventh inning reached a moment of rising to the challenge for Point. A walk from Hannah Phillips and a single from Ramsey Clark added two runners on base with one out. Tia Coleman's single to left field scored Hannah Phillips home to tie the game at 3-3. Skye Loftin's bunt helped keep the game alive at one out which advanced Tia Coleman to second. Freshman, Ansley Joiner stepped into the moment with an RBI single to advance Ramsey Clark to send the Skyhawks to victory in walk-off fashion.

The Skyhawks will return to action at the Gulf Shores Invitational on March 1st to take on Central Baptist in Gulf Shores, Alabama starting at 9:00 A.M. Central Time.
