Softball falls to Tusculum and Columbus State on Day Two of the Cougar-Hurricane Classic
COLUMBUS, Ga. (Feb. 18, 2024) - The Point University Softball returned to the field for Day Two of the Cougar-Hurricane Classic where the Skyhawks took on NCAA Division II, Tusculum University for a morning game and finished the day taking on Columbus State. The Skyhawks fell to Tusculum with a final score of 20-1 and dropped their second game to Columbus State with a final score of 18-1.
Game One vs. Tusculum (20-1, Loss)
The Pioneers opened the first inning with four runs scored off a homer to left field. Point looked to respond at the bottom of the first inning. The Skyhawks were able to add their first run as Ramsey Clark singled a bunt which scored Brooke Burkett. Tusculum followed by adding 13 runs in the next three innings to end the game with a final score of 20-1.
Game Two vs. Columbus State (18-1, Loss)
The Skyhawks opened the top of the first inning with Wellsley Henderson adding a single to right field which scored Mary Durham for their first run. The Cougars added their first run with a double left center to tie the game 1-1. Columbus State followed with five runs in the following inning to move their lead to 6-1. Hannah Philips added a hit down the left-field line but the Skyhawks would be unable to string along a run in the third inning. The Cougars added 12 runs to end the game in five innings with a final score of 18-1.
