Point Softball falls to Stillman in a Sweep

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 7, 2024) - The Point University Softball team returned to the field for a home doubleheader against Southern States Athletic Conference opponent, Stillman College where both teams took the field for a non-conference matchup. The Tigers took the victory in both games with Stillman winning a close one in Game One with the final score being 1-0 and Game Two being 10-1. 

Game One (1-0, Loss) 

The Tigers opened the top of the first inning with a double to quickly get on base. Stillman followed with an RBI single which scored Lauren Haskins to give the Tigers the early lead. The Skyhawks followed with a single to left field from Brooke Burkett but would be able to gather any runs to respond to Stillman. Point would not allow any hits for the following two innings on the defensive side but was held to two hits in the close game for Stillman to pull away for the 1-0 win in Game One.

Game Two (10-1, Loss) 

The Skyhawks opened the top of the first with no hits allowed which carried some momentum over to the bottom of the first at-bat. Mary Durham and Tia Coleman would string together two hits for Point but would be unable to finish the inning with a run. The action picked up as the Skyhawks were in scoring position with a single from Tia Coleman which saw Brooke Burkett advance to home but was called out after a throw from the left fielder to the catcher. Stillman took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth with three hits and two runs scored. Point did not waste time getting a run on the board as a double from Mackenzie Diaz scored Caylee Quarles to bring Stillman's lead to 2-1 as both teams went into the fifth inning. Stillman added fuel to the fire with three runs on five hits to extend their lead by four. Point was held to one hit for the following two innings as Stillman added five more runs to take the win 10-1 for the sweep.
