Track and Field shows progress at the Victor Ice Breaker Duals

FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. (Mar. 5, 2023)- The Point University Track and Field team returned to action to compete at Berry College for their second season meet. The Skyhawks looked to pick up where they left off with previous personal and school records. On the men’s and women’s side, the Skyhawks produced new personal bests and qualifiers for the AAC Championships. 

Men 

Andrew Howe started the day off in men’s Shot Put with a 9.27m which set a new PR and school record. Howe is the first shot put athlete in Point history. He returned for the discus throw and marked a 33.41m throw, qualifying him for the AAC Championship meet.  

Elijah Pace was the first runner of the day for the men’s 5k. He completed it in 16:32.07, beating his previous PR of 16:44.82 and qualifying for the AAC Championships. Ian Dougherty was next on the track in the 1500m finishing with a time of 4:12.18 and breaking the old school record of 4:12.54 that was set back in 2019. This would qualify him for the AAC Championships. Ian returned in the 800, finishing with a time of 2:23.36. 

Javien Leeks was next in the 400m dash, placing 4th out of 35, with a time of 49.68, tying his school record and PR. Leeks’ time of 49.68 qualified him for the AAC Championships, and he is currently leading the AAC. De’Andre Wade, in the 100-meter dash, broke his previous school record of 11.45 with a new time and PR of 10.91. This placed him 4th out of 40 runners and qualified him for the AAC Championships. Wade returned in the 200 with another PR and School Record of 22.5, breaking fellow teammate Javien Leeks’ previous record of 22.96. In the 200m, Wade placed 7th out of 44 runners and qualified for the AAC Championships. 

Quinn Vega made his outdoor freshman debut in the 100m and 200m. He ran 11.48 in the 100, which placed him 16th, and bested his all-time PR in the 200 with a time of 23.06, beating his previous best time of 23.60. He placed 16th in the 200 as well. Issac Jones ran the 100m and 200m, tying his PR in the 100m with an 11.59 and beating his previous PR of 23.71 in the 200m with a new time of 23.69.  

AJ Rathbun also competed in the 100m and 200m, finishing the 100 with a new best time of 12.07 which beat his previous PR of 12.42. Sanjuan Warner competed in the Javelin Throw for the first time in Point history. His first throw was his best throw of 42.17m, setting a new PR and school record, qualifying him for the AAC Championships. 

Women 

Anna Brown and Linda Schiller both competed in the 1500m. Anna set new PRs in the event with a time of 5:55. Anna and Linda returned to the 800m. Anna finished with a time of 2:55.00, and Linda finished with a time of 3:08.30. Ashley Bowden competed in the women’s 400. Bowden set a new PR and school record with a time of 1:08.16. While this record was set, she narrowly missed the AAC qualifying time of 1:05.43. Christyuana Beasley also competed with a time of 1:15.41. Both ladies returned in the 200-meter dash, where Bowden finished with a time of 30.57 and Beasley finished with 32.27.  

Chazmere Anderson tied the women’s 100m school record with a time of 13.42, besting her previous PR of 13.45 and qualifying her for the AAC Championships. Anderson returned in the 200m setting a new school record of 27.96, which beat her old PR of 29.73. Anderson is just an edge away from qualifying for the AAC Championships, needing a time of 27.63. Kyah Campbell also made her debut in the 100 and 200m, where she finished with a time of 15.01 in the 100 and 32.16 in the 200. Macy Babbs competed in the women’s Javelin throw with a 22.36m.
