Leeks qualifies for AAC Championships at Montreat Invitational

MONTREAT, N.C. (March 27, 2022) – For the first time in program history, the Point University distance track program will have an individual competing in the 400 meter dash at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships, as Javien Leek earned a qualifying time Saturday afternoon at the Montreat College Invitational to highlight the Skyhawks' weekend.

Leeks earned a qualifying time of 52.13 and finished in 14th place out of 21 individuals. Leeks also competed in the 200 meter dash and finished in 26th out of 72 runners, with a time of 23.69.  

Also, on the men's side, Elijah Pace competed in the men's 10k and finished in 12th place with a time of 36:02.63. Austin Hemphill competed in the 1500 and finished in 55th with a time of 5:01.22 and in the 800, finishing in 34th with a time of 2:15.94.

In the 100 meter dash, Christian Hodgins and Isaac Jones finished in 52nd and 59th, with times of 12.38 and 14.19, respectively. Hodgins also competed in the 200 meter dash and finished in 61st with a time of 25.27.

In the men's 5k, Micah Burdette finished in 22nd with a time of 16:45.63.

On the women's side, Chazmere Anderson competed in the 200 meter dash and finished in 48th with a time of 31.10. Hayley Akbari competed in the 1500 and finished in 51st with a time of 7:03.20 and in the 800, finishing in 47th with a time of 3:16.01.

Up next, Point will compete in the SWU GottaRun Invite on Saturday, April 2. The meet will take place in Central, S.C., hosted by Southern Wesleyan University.
