Point distance track makes program history at Tiger Track Classic

AUBURN, Ala. (March 19, 2022) – The Point University men's and women's distance track teams competed in the Tiger Track Classic, hosted by Auburn University Friday and Saturday.

The Skyhawks made program history on the women's side, with Chazmere Anderson being the first-ever female for Point to run the 200 meter dash. Anderson finished in 22nd place with a time of 29.73. Point also made program history on the men's side, with Javien Leeks and Isaac Jones competing in the men's 200 meter dash. Leeks finished in 26th with a time of 22.96 and Jones finished in 28th with a time of 23.71.

In the 100 meter dash, Jones, Leeks and Christian Hodgins competed, finishing in 24th, 25th and 27th place, respectively. Jones finished in 11.59, Leeks in 11.60 and Hodgins in 12.37. Jones' finish set a new program record.

On the distance side, Esperanza Aguilar and Hayley Akbari competed in the women's 800. Aguilar finished in 13th with a time of 2:56.41 and Akbari finished in 15th with a time of 3:10.71. On the men's side of the 800, Austin Hemphill finished in 33rd with a time of 2:21.89.

Hemphill joined Joshua Beam to compete in the men's 1500. Beam finished in 15th with a time of 4:22.22 and Hemphill finished in 23rd with a time of 4:53.38.

In the men's 3k, Micah Burdette earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 9:47.05 and Elijah Pace earned an eighth-place finish with a time of 9:47.19.

Beam, Burdette and Pace competed in the men's 5k and Beam set a new school record, as he finished in 12th place with a time of 15:50.82. The 5k school record was held initially by Tyler Agan, who set it in April 2019 with a time of 16:11.68. Burdette finished in 16th with a time of 16:46.95 and Pace finished in 17th with a time of 17:06.68.

The Skyhawks will return to the track next weekend, March 25-26, as they compete in the Montreat College Invitational.
