Swim returns to action in Viking Invitational

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. (Jan. 18, 2022) – The Point University men's and women's swim teams returned to the pool this past weekend to kick off the 2022 portion of their season at the Viking Invitational hosted by Berry College.

Final scores:

              Men:

  1. Birmingham Southern – 662
  2. Berry – 610
  3. Point – 331

Women:

  1. Birmingham Southern – 589
  2. Berry – 579
  3. Point – 39

Top finishers for the men:

  • Connor Cochran earned the highest finish for the men, winning the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:59.07.
  • Xavier Philips finished second place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.38.
  • Cochran earned a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:55.65.
  • The 200 freestyle relay team of Jaxon Kite, Mitchell Crane, Josiah Blair, and Philips earned a third-place finish with a time of 1:33.32.
  • Cochran finished fourth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.29.
  • The 200 medley relay team of Blair, Will Kelly, Kite, and Philips finished fourth with a time of 1:44.35.
  • Kite finished in fifth-place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.62.
  • Kelly finished in fifth-place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.96.
  • Kite finished in fifth-place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.17.

Top finishers for the women:

  • Nica Pretorius finished seventh in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:29.75.
  • Taylor Sturgis finished 11th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 29.06.
  • Hayley Akbari finished 12th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 29.70.
  • Pretorius finished seventh in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:18.55.
