Skyhawks complete 2021 portion of season at SCAD Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. (Dec. 4, 2021) – The Point University men's and women's swimming teams closed out the 2021 portion of its season at the 16th SCAD Swimming Invitational Friday and Saturday. The men's team finished in sixth place out of eight teams and the women's team finished in eighth place.

Nica Pretorius, Taylor Sturgis, and Hayley Akbari represented the women's team. Pretorius earned one point for the women's team with a 16th place finish in the 500 yard freestyle.

Connor Cochran and Josiah Blair recorded school records, with Cochran breaking the 1650 freestyle record and Blair breaking the 100 backstroke. Cochran finished in seventh place in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:01.29 and Blair finished in 11th in the 100 with a time of 55.07.

Xavier Philips continued his strong performance with a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.76. In the same event, Jaxon Kite finished in seventh place with a time of 22.42.

The men's 200 freestyle relay team of Kite, Mitchell Crane, Rayden Hector and Philips earned 24 points with a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:30.70. In the same event, Cochran, Jacob Copeland, Will Kelly and Ben Miller finished in ninth place with a time of 1:34.94.

In the men's 200 medley relay, the team of Blair, Kelly, Kite and Philips finished in seventh with a time of 1:40.70, beating their seed time by nearly four seconds. In the same event, the team of Cochran, Copeland, Crane and Miller finished in ninth place with a time of 1:47.78.

The men had two relay teams compete in the 400 freestyle relay, with Cochran, Blair, Hector and Kite finishing in ninth and the team of Crane, Copeland, Kelly and Miller finishing in 11th.

Point will return to action in January, as the Skyhawks kick off the 2022 portion of its season at the Viking Invitational hosted by Berry College, Jan. 14-15.
