Men’s soccer upsets Reinhardt in AAC tournament

WALESKA, Ga. (Nov. 5, 2021) – A goal from Jeronimo Leguizamon four minutes into the game was all it took for the Point University men's soccer team to defeat Reinhardt University 1-0 Friday evening in the quarterfinal round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament.

Brandon Cervantes from midfield fed Leguizamon the ball on the right side of the field, and Leguizamon was able to send the ball into the left side of the net to help take the early 1-0 lead. Point's defense kept the Eagles off the board for the remaindering of the game, with Julio Gomes making 11 stops.

Reinhardt's offense kept Point's defense busy as the Eagles outshot Point 23-6.

"Tonight, we knew we would have to battle and play with a lot of heart and sacrifice for each other on the field," Head Coach Mark Wozniak said. "Reinhardt's team is a very good side, and playing them at their place is never easy. We played for each other tonight, and I am so proud of the boys for their effort and mentality that we showed. This conference is so competitive, and we know that we will have to bring the same mentality in the next game. We now focus on the semifinal on Tuesday at home and keeping the winning streak going."

With Friday's win, the Skyhawks are now on a five-game win streak.

The Skyhawks, who entered the AAC tournament as the No. 6 seed, advance to the semifinal round and host No. 7 Montreat on Tuesday, Nov. 9, inside River Bowl Stadium. Montreat upset No. 2 seed Milligan Friday evening to advance.

Game time for Tuesday's matchup will be available soon.
