Men’s lacrosse falls to Shorter on senior day

WEST POINT, Ga. (March 31, 2022) – The Point University men's lacrosse team hosted Shorter University Thursday afternoon in the Skyhawks' final game inside River Bowl Stadium and lost 15-5.

During halftime of Thursday's game, Point honored its lone senior, Jassiem Josse.

Shorter jumped on the scoreboard first but was quickly answered by an unassisted goal by Josse to level the score 1-1. The Hawks would score another goal in the opening frame and extend their lead with five goals in the second quarter. Shorter's defense prevented Point from scoring in the second quarter and the Hawks entered the second half leading 7-1.

Shorter tacked on three more goals in the third quarter and held the Skyhawks scoreless, once again, to make the score 10-1. Malyke Sillers opened up the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals, both assisted by Josse, to cut Shorter's lead down to seven (10-3). The Hawks would answer with four goals before Josse scored his final goal of the contest with 3:22 to play (14-4). Shorter would answer with a goal 30 seconds later, but Sillers would score the final goal of the contest with four seconds remaining, with an assist from Josse.

Point was led by Josse, who scored two goals off nine shots, six on frame, recorded three assists and added seven ground balls. Sillers led the Skyhawks in goals scored with three and took 19 shots with nine on frame. Cam Simmons, Wesley Jones Jr., and Jarrod Posey each recorded three ground balls. In goal, Kiereek McLeod recorded 12 saves. The Skyhawks finished with 35 shots, 19 on goal, and 23 ground balls.

Point returns to action on Tuesday, April 5, as they play Mount Vernon Nazarene in Jellico, Tenn., at Jellico High School, at 3:30 p.m.
