Sillers' big scoring day not enough as Skyhawks fall to Webber 23-7

WEST POINT, Ga. (March 11, 2022) - The Point University men's lacrosse team hosted Webber International University Friday afternoon in River Bowl Stadium in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup and fell to the Warriors 23-7.  

This is the second time the Skyhawks faced Webber this season, as Point opened its season in Tallahassee, Fla. falling to the Warriors 26-7.

Webber took a quick lead with two goals in the first two minutes of the first quarter, but the Skyhawks quickly answered with a goal from Jeremiah Menzies. Webber would hold Point scoreless for the remainder of the quarter while also scoring five more goals to make the score at the end of the first quarter 7-1. 

With 11:46 remaining in the second quarter, Malyke Sillers would connect for his first goal of the game, bringing the score to 8-2. Just three minutes later, Raphael Soares would score his first goal of the season to make the score 8-3, and seconds before halftime, Sillers would connect for his second goal of the game, making the score 15-4 at the break. 

Point would score three goals in the second half, all from Sillers. Sillers connected for one goal in the third quarter and two in the final frame, the last in the final seconds of action. The Warriors would score five goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth. 

Sillers led Point with five goals, taking nine shots with five on frame and added two ground balls to his stat line. Jassiem Josse recorded three ground balls, 11 shots, and eight on frame, and Soares and Menzies each recorded one goal apiece. Kiereek McLeod had 17 saves in goal. 

Point will be back in action on Wednesday, March 17, as they travel up the road to LaGrange College for a nonconference matchup at 7 p.m.
