Point falls in tough battle with SAU

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 12, 2022) – The Point University men's lacrosse team hosted St. Andrews Saturday afternoon in their 2022 home opener inside River Bowl Stadium and fell to the Knights 20-7 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.

Both teams played a close first quarter, as the Knights led 3-1 at the end of the period. St. Andrews scored three goals to open Saturday's contest before Jassiem Josse connected for Point's lone goal of the quarter with 29 seconds left.

Within 53 seconds of the second quarter, SAU scored again, but James Lyle answered with his second goal of the season to cut the Knights' lead in half (4-2). This would be the only goal Point would score the entire quarter as St. Andrews scored six more goals to enter the half leading 10-2.

In the second half, the Knights once again scored the first goal of the quarter before Jeremiah Menzies rushed the ball down the field to score Point's third goal. The Knights would limit Point from scoring any more goals in the quarter but would score five more goals to enter the final period leading 16-3.

In the final quarter, both teams posted four goals each, with Josse scoring three goals and Cam Simmons scoring his first goal of the season.

Malyke Sillers led Point in shot attempts with 10, four on goal and Josse had eight shots, five on goal and scored four goals. He added one assist and six groundballs to his stat line.
