Men’s lacrosse falls at Shorter

ROME, Ga. (Feb. 2, 2022) – The Point University men's lacrosse team traveled to Shorter University Wednesday evening and fell to the Hawks 23-6.

Shorter scored the match's first goal before Malyke Sillers evened the score less than a minute later. The Hawks responded with four goals before Sillers connected for his second goal for the Skyhawks. Shorter would score two more goals before Sillers ended the quarter with his third goal.

In the second quarter, Point limited Shorter to only two goals, but the Hawks' defense put up a strong front as well as the Skyhawks were unable to find the back of the net. Shorter entered the half leading 9-3.

In the second half, Shorter's offense came out hot, scoring seven goals in each quarter of the second half. Shorter limited Point to only three goals in the second half, with Sillers scoring the first, James Lyle scoring his first career goal, and Jassiem Josse scoring the Skyhawks' only goal in the fourth quarter.

Sillers led Point's offense with four goals off seven shots and had nine ground balls. Josse followed with one goal off five shots and seven ground balls and Lyle recorded one goal off seven shots. In goal, Kiereek McLeod recorded 15 saves.

Up next, Point opens Appalachian Athletic Conference play by traveling to play Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 12 p.m.
