Men’s lacrosse drops season opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Jan. 29, 2022) – The Point University men's lacrosse team opened their 2022 season Saturday afternoon, facing Webber in a nonconference matchup in Tallahassee, and fell to the Warriors 26-7.

Senior Jassiem Josse led the Skyhawks with five goals off nine shots, and Malyke Sillers made his collegiate debut with two goals off seven shots. In goal, Kiereek McLeod made 11 saves.

The Warriors scored the game's first goal, but Sillers quickly tied it up less than a minute later. Sillers followed with another goal a minute later to help Point take a 2-1 lead, but Webber would go on to score seven more goals in the first quarter, and the Skyhawks scored one with four seconds remaining from Josse. Webber led 8-3 at the start of the second quarter.

The Warriors added six more goals in the second quarter and did not allow Point to score a single goal. Webber entered halftime leading 14-3. The Skyhawks were able to find the back of the net once again in the second half, as Josse connected for three goals in the third quarter. Webber scored four goals to extend their lead 19-6. In the final quarter, Josse scored the first goal before Webber finished the game with seven goals.

Up next, Point travels to Shorter for another nonconference matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 2, before turning its attention to Appalachian Athletic Conference play as they travel to Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 5. Point's matchup at Shorter will begin at 5 p.m.
