Men's golf finishes seventh at NAIA National Championship

SILVIS, Ill. (May 20, 2022) – The Point University men's golf team concluded the 70th annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship Friday afternoon with a seventh-place finish.

Tournament notes

  • The tournament featured 29 teams and 11 individuals. The field was cut down to 17 teams after the second round.
  • The 70th annual national championship was held at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. The course par was 71 and the yardage was 6,691.
  • Point entered the final day of action in fourth with rounds of 280, 284 and 294. The Skyhawks dropped three places on Friday after shooting a 302. Overall, Point was 24-over par.
  • Keiser claimed its first NAIA National Championship and earned the individual title. The Seahawks shot 6-under par to win the tournament and defeated the reigning national champions, Dalton State, who came in second after shooting 3-under par.
  • Keiser's Jakob Stavang Stubhaug finished tied in first place with The Master's Jack Dudeck and both had to compete in a sudden-victory playoff, with Stubhaug winning.
  • Top 10 standings: 1 Keiser (Fla.) [-6], 2 Dalton State (Ga.) [-3], 3 Bellevue (Neb.) [+12], 4 Houston - Victoria (Texas) [+19], 5 Ottawa (Ariz.) [+21], 6 Beaufort (S.C.) [+22], 7 Point (Ga.) [+24], 8 British Columbia [+27], 9 Wayland Baptist (Texas) [+32], 10 Texas Wesleyan [+33]
  • Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Reinhardt finished tied in 13th place.

Individual Finishes

  • Brendan Porter led the field in first place through the third round but shot an 85 on the final day to end the week tied in 19th. Porter was 2-over par with rounds of 64, 65, 72 and 85.
  • Jaden Saunders finished tied in 40th with rounds of 73, 71, 70 and 78 (8-over par).
  • Cole Stevens finished tied in 44th with rounds of 70, 76, 73 and 74 (9-over par).
  • Trevor Poole finished tied in 69th with rounds of 73, 73, 80 and 74 (16-over par).
  • Dominik Wolf finished tied in 82nd with rounds of 75, 75, 79 and 76 (21-over par).
