No. 9 men’s golf finishes second in spring opener

VALDOSTA, Ga. (Feb. 22, 2022) – The Point University men's golf team opened its 2022 season this past Monday and Tuesday at the Kinderlou Forest Spring Invite in Valdosta, Ga., hosted by Dalton State. After a tough first round, the Skyhawks jumped from sixth place to third place and were only one stroke out of first place, but an impressive third round by Dalton State propelled the Roadrunners to a first-place finish, and the Skyhawks finished in second.

Tournament Notes

  • Point finished with a tournament score of 892 (+28)
  • The Skyhawks shot rounds of 308, 281 and 303
  • The Skyhawks defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference foes Truett McConnell and Reinhardt, who finished third and fourth, respectively.
  • Cumberland (TN) finished in fifth, Webber International finished in sixth, Campbellsville finished in seventh and Abraham Baldwin College finished in eighth.

Individual Finishes

  • Trevor Poole recorded the top finish for Point as he finished in second with a score of 219, one stroke out of first place. Poole was 3-over with rounds of 76, 69, 74.
  • Cole Stevens finished tied in fourth place with a score of 222. Stevens was 6-over par with rounds of 78, 69, 75.
  • Zandre Labuschagne finished tied in 14th place with a score of 226. He was 10-over with rounds of 75, 73, 78.
  • Brendan Porter finished tied in 19th place with a score of 228. He was 12-over with rounds of 79, 73, 76.
  • Dominik Wolf rounded out the Skyhawks in 21st place. He was 13-over with rounds of 80, 70, 79.

Point will be back in action in their home tournament as they host the Skyhawk Spring Invitational March 7-8 at Callaway Gardens.
