Skyhawks finish third in AAC Fall Preview

ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. (Oct. 19, 2021) – The No. 12 Point University men's golf team competed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Preview Monday and Tuesday at Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville, Georgia, and earned a third-place finish with a tournament score of 903.

Point shot the best third-round score of the tournament, carding a 297 and had an even stronger second round, finishing with a 291, but the Skyhawks struggled in the first round, shooting a 315, and were unable to overcome No. 23 Dalton State and No. 2 USC Beaufort, who finished in first place and second place, respectively. The Skyhawks trailed Dalton State by 11 strokes and USCB by six.

The AAC regular-season champion is determined by combining the AAC Fall Championship and AAC Spring Championship scores. The Skyhawks finished ahead of all AAC competing teams.

Freshman Zandre Labuschagne led Point with a sixth-place, finishing with rounds of 77, 71, 73 and was directly followed by sophomore Cole Stevens, who finished in seventh place, carding a 222.

Brendan Porter finished in 19th with rounds of 79, 76, 74, and Trevor Poole was closely behind, tied in 21st, with rounds of 82, 74, 75. Tom Wilson finished in 46th after carding a 241, and Ludson Maduro competed as an individual for Point and finished tied in 52nd place.

The Skyhawks will finish the fall portion of their season in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, in the Keiser Kup, hosted by No. 1 Keiser University. The event is set to take place Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 25-26, at Mission Inn Golf Club.
