Men’s golf completes day two comeback to win Bojangles Invitational

VONORE, Tenn. (Oct. 10, 2021) – After finishing day one, one stroke out of first, the No. 12 Point University men's golf team shot 3-under par Sunday afternoon to surge into the lead and win the Bojangles Invitational.

The Skyhawks finished with a tournament score of 865 and 1-over par. Point was 15 strokes ahead of Dalton State, who finished in second place.

After a rough first round of the tournament that saw the Skyhawks in a 4-way tie for fourth place after shooting a 295, Point used a solid second round, shooting a 285, to work their way into second place, one stroke behind Reinhardt. Point's strong performance from the second round carried over to day two, where the Skyhawks shot a 285 in the third round as well to capture the victory.

Sophomore Cole Stevens led Point with rounds of 67, 74 and 68, finishing individually in second place with a tournament score of 209 (7-under par). Brendan Porter joined Stevens on the all-tournament team, as he finished in sixth with rounds of 76, 71 and 70. Porter carded a 217 (1-over par).

Freshman Zandre Labuschagne finished in a 4-way tie for seventh place, shooting a 219 (3-over par) with rounds of 74, 70 and 75. Trevor Poole followed in a 3-way tie for 11th place after carding a 220 (4-over par) with rounds of 78, 70 and 72. Dominik Wolf finished tied in 47th with rounds of 81, 84 and 81.

Freshman Jaden Saunders competed as an individual and finished tied in 25th with rounds of 77, 72 and 76.

The Skyhawks will now turn their attention to the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championship that will take place Oct. 18-19, at Barnsley Gardens, in Adairsville, Georgia.
