Stevens finishes third individually; Skyhawks place ninth in Invite at Innisbrook

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (Sept. 28, 2021) – The No. 3 Point University men's golf team traveled to Palm Harbor, Florida, to play in the Invite at Innisbrook Monday and Tuesday, and finished in ninth place in a field that featured 20 of the nation's top programs.

The tournament was played on the Copperhead Course on the Innisbrook Resort, known as one of the most challenging stops on the PGA Tour.

Point's ninth-place finish came after a tough round-one, seeing the Skyhawks in 17th place after shooting a 312. The Skyhawks shot a 295 in the second round to jump six places up to 11th. After the first two rounds, Cole Stevens led the team in fifth place with rounds of 73 and 68 and was 1-under par.

Point continued their comeback on day two of the tournament as the team jumped two places into the top-10 to finish the tournament in ninth with a round-three score of 299. Stevens was 1-over par on the day and finished the tournament in third place individually with a score of 213.

Following Stevens was Brendan Porter, who finished in 45th, carding a 228. Trevor Poole carded a 232 in 64th place, Zandre Labuschagne finished in 83rd with a 237 and Dominik Wolf rounded out the Skyhawks in 90th place with a 239.

No. 2 Keiser won the tournament undisputedly, shooting 11-under par and placing four of their top five in the top-10 individually. No. 4 Coastal Georgia and No. 12 USC Beaufort finished tied in second place, shooting 24-over par. Other nationally ranked teams that played in the tournament included No. 1 Dalton State (16th-place), No. 8 Southeastern (fourth place), No. 23 Tennessee Wesleyan (sixth-place), No. 9 Lindsey Wilson (seventh-place), No. 14 Truett McConnell (11th place), No. 17 Reinhardt (13th place), No. 18 SCAD-Savannah (13th place), No. 16 Campbellsville (15th place), No. 19 Grand View (17th place), No. 20 William Carey (18th place) and No. 6 Cumberland (19th place).

Up next, Point will travel to Vonore, Tennessee, to compete in the Bojangles Intercollegiate, hosted by No. 23 Tennessee Wesleyan, Oct. 9-10.
