Men’s Basketball halted in road matchup against the Barons

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. (Feb. 14, 2024) - The Point University Men's Basketball team returned to the court for a Southern States Athletic Conference road matchup against Brewton-Parker College where the Skyhawks fell to the Barons with a final score of 70-57. 

The first half opened with Robert Kendrick scoring the first five points off a three-pointer and layup. As the Barons looked to stretch their early lead, Justice Hayes converted on three triples to tie the game at 15. The Skyhawks took the lead by two as Kenton Steele crashed the boards for the tip-in. Point kept their lead as Mike Evans converted on the take to the lane. The Skyhawks' lead grew to six as Justice Hayes added his third triple of the game to lead 26-20 with under six minutes left in the half. Brewton-Parker stormed back to end the half on an 11-2 run to lead 31-28. 

The second half opened with the Skyhawks tying the game as Theron Montgomery and Sam Rees converted on jumpers. The Barons rallied on an 11-2 run but a fourth three-pointer from Justice Hayes cut the Brewton-Parker at 49-44. Brewton-Parker proceeded to go on a 14-4 run to extend the lead to 65-47. Myles McClain and Sam Rees would score the final five points for the Skyhawks in the matchup as the Barons moved past Point with a score of 70-57. 

In the Box 

Justice Hayes led with 16 Points, three rebounds, and one blocked shot. Robert Kendrick followed with nine points, six rebounds, and two assists.
