Men’s Basketball drops nail-biter to Blue Mountain on the road

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. (Feb. 8, 2024) - The Point University Men's Basketball team returned to the court for a Southern States Athletic Conference Matchup in North Mississippi where the Skyhawks took on Blue Mountain Christian University where the Toppers took the win 70-66. 

The first half opened with both opponents trading scores with hopes of taking the momentum on their side. Robert Kendrick breezed past the Topper defense for an and-one layup and his converted free throw brought their lead to 10-5. Point's offense continued to get off to a hot start with Justice Hayes and Theron Montgomery adding multiple layups to extend their lead to nine. The Toppers cut into the lead by the following seven points to bring the score to 18-14 but the hot start from Robert Kendrick continued as he added a three-pointer. Blue Mountain continued to string together their offense by taking the pace to their side as Point led 23-20. As the half continued, Point's lead jumped to 32-23 with two triples and a layup in the paint. The Skyhawks ended the half by scoring the following two baskets to lead 36-29.  

The second half opened with the Skyhawks extending their lead to double digits as Justice Hayes splashed a three-pointer. The Toppers quickly wiped the double-digit deficit to 45-43. The run for Blue Mountain continued as the Toppers took their first lead since the 18:39 mark in the first half. The Skyhawks looked to creep back into the game as Myles McClain connected with Sam Rees to bring the Topper lead to 58-55. Blue Mountain continued to handle any counter that Point threw their way as free throws helped push the lead to 65-59 with under a minute left in the game. Myles McClain added two triples to bring the game within two points at six seconds but the Toppers held on to win 70-66.

Robert Kendrick led with 21 Points, 13 rebounds, and three assists. Myles McClain added 20 Points, 10 Points, and three assists. Theron Montgomery contributed with 12 Points, six rebounds, and two steals.
