Men’s Basketball drops home SSAC Matchup to Dalton State

WEST POINT, Ga. (Jan. 27, 2024) - The Point University Men's Basketball returned to the court for a home Saturday afternoon Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Dalton State College where the Skyhawks fell 69-58. 

Kenton Steele got the first half started with a layup in the paint to score the first basket of the game. The Skyhawks continued to start fast on the offensive end as Theron Montgomery and Steele scored the following two layups in the paint to have an early lead of 6-2. Point did not stop there as they stretched the floor with Sam Rees scoring a three-pointer and following with a mid-range jumper. The Roadrunners climbed back into the game by taking the lead but Point wiped the lead away with another make from Sam Rees. Both teams continued to trade leads with it changing five times. Dalton State took a seven-point lead after going ahead and Sam Rees scored another triple to cut the lead to 27-24. Point's ball movement continued to be crisp which was put on display as a final pass to Justice Hayes resulted in a wide-open three-pointer to tie the game. The Roadrunners responded by going on an 8-2 run to end the half with a 35-29 lead.  

The Skyhawks started the half by cutting their deficit to three as Justice Hayes scored his second triple of the game. Point continued to score as Theron Montgomery scored on a layup with great strength. Dalton State's lead stayed within three points until the Roadrunners rallied a 7-0 run to lead by nine. The Skyhawks halted the run as Vince Graves scored on the contact layup which was followed by a three-pointer from Justice Hayes to cut the game to 47-43. Dalton State proceeded to go on a 13-2 run to bring their lead to 60-45. The Roadrunners continued to push their lead further away from Point's reach by scoring on two more layups before the run was ended by two layups from Ashton Nance. Vince Graves scored the final bucket on a fastbreak dunk to end the game with Dalton State winning at 69-58.

Sam Rees led with 15 Points, three rebounds, and one steal. Justice Hayes followed with 11 Points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
