Men’s Basketball unable to overcome Faulkner’s hot shooting day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Jan. 13, 2024) - The Point University Men's Basketball team returned to the court for a Saturday afternoon Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Faulkner University where the Skyhawks fell 96-71. 

Mike Evans put the Skyhawks on the scoreboard first with a three-pointer to tie the game in the early going. Joshua Scott converted the layup in the paint with to jump hook for the score. Point took their first lead of the game as Robert Kendrick converted on the fastbreak score to lead 8-7. The Skyhawks continued their scoring with Robert Kendrick converting the following two baskets. Faulkner responded with the following two scores but an and-one layup and made free throw from Justice Hayes brought the game within two points. The Skyhawks continued to keep the game within the distance as Jeremiah Smith converted on two mid-range jumpers to bring the score to 23-19 with Faulkner leading. The Eagles followed by bringing their lead to double digits on a 13-4 run until Robert Kendrick scored on another layup in the paint. As the half came to a close, John Williams knocked down a SportsCenter Top 10 worthy play with a full court nothing but net buzzer beater as the Skyhawks trailed 41-31 at the half.  

Faulkner opened the second half on an 8-0 run and the Skyhawks responded with a Mike Evans and Jeremiah Smith three-pointer. Robert Kendrick and Theron Montgomery added two more buckets for Point as the Skyhawks trailed 53-41. The Eagles went on a 20-4 run which was their biggest run of the game to extend the lead to 31 Points. Sam Rees and Robert Kendrick converted on the following scores for Point to end their drought. Point continued to push their way on the scoreboard as the following three scores came from Robert Kendrick, Jeremiah Smith, and Mike Evans. Theron Montgomery would score the final basket for Point as the Skyhawks fell to the Eagles 96-71. 

In the Box 

Robert Kendrick led with 23 Points, six rebounds, and one assist. Mike Evans followed with 11 Points, five assists, and one steal. Sam Rees added nine points off the bench for Point.
