Men’s Basketball downed by Brewton-Parker in home SSAC Play

WEST POINT, Ga. (Jan. 10, 2024) - The Point University Men's Basketball returned to the court for a Thursday Night Southern States Matchup in the West Point Park Gymnasium where the Skyhawks took on Brewton-Parker College and fell 79-50. 

The Barons opened the first half on an 11-0 run until the Skyhawks added their first score with a layup from Jeremiah Smith off the offensive rebound. Point followed with a layup in the paint from Joshua Scott and Kenton Steele added two free throws to bring the Barons' lead to five. Two more scores from Myles McClain and Robert Kendrick brought the game to an 11-10 score but Brewton-Parker added another triple to their lead back to four. The game was tied at 14 as the postplay continued with Jeremiah Smith and Joshua Scott anchoring in the post for the layups. John Williams' mid-range jumper halted the 11-0 run from the Barons with hopes of Point getting ready to rally for their own. Point finished the half with Robert Kendrick scoring on the following two possessions as he splashed a three-pointer and added a fastbreak layup to trail 30-24. Kendrick added the final score of the half with another jumper, bringing it to 35-26 at the half. 

Mike Evans and Joshua Scott opened the second half in the scoring column with two consecutive layups to creep closer to the Baron lead. Point continued to get to the rack with Theron Montgomery and John Williams converted in the paint to bring the score to 41-34. Point's offense continued to end their possessions the right way as John Williams, Myles McClain, and Kenton Steele scored in the paint to trail 49-40. Jeremiah Smith connected on the wide-open triple to halt another run by Brewton-Parker in the half. The Skyhawks would be held scoreless in the final six minutes of the half to bring the game to a close with the Barons winning 79-50. 

In the Box 

Robert Kendrick and Myles McClain both led with nine points each off the bench for the Skyhawks. Kenton Steele added eight points and three rebounds. John Williams contributed seven points, two rebounds, and one blocked shot.
