Mike Evans’ season-high earns him SSAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

WEST POINT, Ga. (Jan. 2, 2024) - The Southern States Athletic Conference announced the Player of the Week honors for the first week of the new year. Mike Evans' hard work in the win against Truett-McConnell University earned him conference recognition to be named the player of the week on the men's side.

Mike Evans is a true definition of a gym rat who stays locked in on getting better each time he steps on the court. The graduate guard from Ellenwood, Georgia had his best game as a Skyhawk where he added 22 Points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in the win against Truett-McConnell University. Evans mentioned in his postgame interview that his approach came with "a lot of work that was put in before games and being in the gym getting shots up". He also mentioned how he felt like he each shot could go in which showed as he made multiple big shots down the stretch which helped the Skyhawks win the game. The transfer from NCAA Division II, Tuskegee University has helped add to the guard depth along with his buy-in into Jake Deer's approach to the game up to this point. Mike Evans has shown that he can crash the boards for rebounds with his season-high. Evans' court vision was also a key factor in the win as he had seven assists against the Bears. This will his is first weekly honor and Evans will look to help his team add another win on Thursday, January 4th starting at 7:30 P.M.
