Men’s Basketball falls to #15 University of Mobile in home SSAC Play

WEST POINT, Ga. (Dec. 2, 2023) - The Point University Men's Basketball team returned to the court for a home Saturday afternoon Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against #15 University of Mobile where the Skyhawks fell 75-59. 

After the Rams started with a 4-0 lead, Joshua Scott started the game with the first score for the Skyhawks. Mobile took the following three scores to lead 11-2 before Theron Montgomery halted the run with a layup. As the Rams took the following two scores, Kenton Steele woke up the West Point Gym with a posterizing dunk. The momentum picked up with the Skyhawks taking the next score with a three-pointer from Jacob Crockett to cut Mobile's lead to 15-9. The Rams responded with a 6-0 run to lead 21-9. The Rams continued to hold their lead but the Skyhawks started to climb as Jacob Crockett converted on another three-pointer to trail 30-19. This sparked an 11-2 run as the Rams went into halftime leading 32-27. 

Point brought the Rams' lead to three as Joshua Scott got the second half started with a layup. As Mobile responded with two scores, Robert Kendrick let it fly with a smooth jump shot to cut into the Rams' lead with the score being 36-31. As Mobile pushed their lead to 10, Jeremiah Smith helped the Skyhawks see a sign of life as he knocked down the three-pointer. Joshua Scott's smooth footwork was put on display in the paint as he scored on the layup to cut Mobile's lead to 45-40. Point continued to keep the game within the distance as Scott scored on another layup but the Rams retaliated with a 12-4 run bringing their lead to 61-47. Kenton Steele and Robert Kendrick continued to bring life to the offense as both players scored on the following layups. Kendrick followed with two made free throws from the charity stripe to bring the game within 10 Points. As the Skyhawks continued to push for a comeback, Mobile converted on the following four baskets to take the win with a 74-59 score.

Robert Kendrick led with 15 Points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Joshua Scott and Jacob Crockett each followed with 11 Points where Scott added 10 Rebounds for a double-double.
