Men’s Basketball falls to West Georgia in road Exhibition

CARROLLTON, Ga. (Nov. 20, 2023) - The Point University Men's Basketball team returned to action for a road Exhibition matchup against NCAA Division II, the University of West Georgia where the Skyhawks fell 86-66. 

Theron Montgomery got the first half started by scoring the first basket of the game. Robert Kendrick followed with a layup to bring the early lead to a 4-1 score. The Skyhawks continued their quick start as Kenton Steele added to Point's lead. The teamwork continued to be put on display as Jacob Crockett assisted Joshua Scott on the layup to lead 9-5. Point's lead jumped to six as Joshua Scott scored on a layup and Jacob Crockett followed with a shot behind the arc. West Georgia countered with a 17-0 run before Joshua Scott and Jacob Crockett brought the Wolves' lead within 10 points. Kenton Steele would score the following two baskets for Point as the Skyhawks trailed 37-24. Theron Montgomery would halt the 8-0 run from West Georgia by converting on the jump shot. As the half neared the final seconds, Justice Hayes scored with a three-pointer as the Skyhawks went into the half trailing 56-31. 

Jacob Crockett started the second half with the first score for the Skyhawks as the action picked up again. Joshua Scott scored on the following two layups to halt the 8-0 run from West Georgia. Point continued to play the next play as Theron Montgomery continued to find his spots on the court with the following two made layups. As the half continued, Kenton Steele and Robert Kendrick added to Point's score with a layup from Steele and a three-pointer from Kendrick. Mike Evans scored the final basket on a three-pointer for the Skyhawks as the Wolves took the win 86-66.

Theron Montgomery led with 22 Points, five rebounds, one steal, and one blocked shot. Joshua Scott followed with 14 Points and one rebound. Robert Kendrick contributed nine points and four rebounds.

The Men's Basketball team will return to action for a home SSAC matchup against RV Loyola University-New Orleans on Thursday, November 30th starting at 7:30 P.M.
