Men’s Basketball cools down the Fire at home

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 11, 2023) - The Point University Men's Basketball team returned to the court for a Saturday afternoon matchup against RV Southeastern University where the Skyhawks took the win 66-58. 

The Fire started off by scoring the first two baskets of the game from a layup and a three-pointer. Point would come out of the quick timeout as Theron Montgomery and Joshua Scott scored to bring the score to 5-4. Point started to catch their offensive rhythm as Jacob Crockett tied the game with a three-pointer with Joshua Scott adding a layup to put the Skyhawks ahead. The back-and-forth battle continued between the opponents continued as the Fire scored on a triple ball but Jacob Crockett responded with a three-pointer. The battle continued as Kenton Steele scored on the layup to tie the game at 14. Southeastern scored another three-pointer to lead 21-16. The Skyhawks started to find their way back as Theron Montgomery converted on the layup which was followed by two free throws from Cameron Wickline. Two layups from Kenton Steele and a jumper from Myles McClain put Point ahead 28-23. As the half continued to tick, Myles McClain converted on another jumper and Southeastern followed with a 1-for-2 opportunity from the charity stripe along with a layup from the Fire bringing the score 32-30 with the Skyhawks leading at the half. 

Point started the second half with Myles McClain driving to the lane for an and-one layup and a made free throw to bring the lead to five. Theron Montgomery continued to make his presence known in the paint on the following offensive possession as he scored on the putback layup. Montgomery would add another score to the board with another layup and Jacob Crockett added fuel to the fire with his third three-pointer of the game. Crockett continued to keep Southeastern guessing with another three-point bomb to bring the score to 45-38. The half continued with the Skyhawks capitalizing on the mistakes of the Fire as Theron Montgomery and Kenton Steele scored on the following possessions. The Skyhawks' lead jumped to nine as Theron Montgomery crashed the boards for the putback layup. Mike Evans entered the fray with the smooth jumper to bring the score 60-52. The Fire converted on the following scores with one being from three to trim Point's lead to three. The Skyhawks' defense was clutch in the late minute as Point only allowed one more score from the Fire as the Skyhawks scored their final six baskets to win 66-57. 

In the Box 

Theron Montgomery led with a double-double as Montgomery added 16 Points, 15 Rebounds, and two blocks. Jacob Crockett followed with 12 Points, six rebounds, and one block. Kenton Steele added 11 Points and nine rebounds.
