Men’s Basketball catches fire for the win against Oakwood

PULASKI, Tenn. (Nov. 4, 2023) - The Point University Men's Basketball team returned to the court for Day 1 of the Firehawk Classic for a neutral site matchup against Oakwood University where the Skyhawks took the win 82-54. 

The Skyhawks started the first half with Jacob Crockett scoring on the three-pointer which was followed by a layup from Cameron Wickline. Point continued their fast start as Justice Hayes knocked down two free throws from the charity stripe. Joshua Scott followed with a strong take to the lane to extend the lead to 10-2. The Skyhawks continued to move the ball around as Kenton Steele converted on a layup and Sam Rees added a three-pointer on the following offensive possession. Oakwood looked to slow Point down on offense but the Skyhawks continued to counter any adjustments from Oakwood as Mike Evans and Robert Kendrick converted on the following scores. The firepower of Point's offense carried its excellence as Jacob Crockett scored the next six points by hitting two consecutive three-pointers. The half continued with Myles McClain and Vince Graves scoring with jump shots. The Skyhawks would add fuel to the fire with a 20-point lead as Kenton Steele converted the layup. The half ended with Joshua Scott converting the final basket for Point to lead 37-14.  

The second half of action began with Myles McClain connecting with Theron Montgomery for the first layup of the half. Oakwood began to look for ways to make a comeback but the hopes of a run were halted as Joshua Scott and Robert Kendrick converted the following three baskets. The Skyhawks continued to keep their lead intact with a made jump shot from Sam Rees and a layup from Robert Kendrick. Point added a 13-2 run as the Skyhawks pushed their lead to 64-39 with their foot on the gas. Robert Kendrick continued to find his spots on the court as he added an and-one layup followed by a converted free throw. Myles McClain converted a three-pointer and Robert Kendrick added another take to the lane to lead 80-49. Kendrick would score the final bucket for the Skyhawks as Point won 82-54. 

In the Box 

Robert Kendrick led with 15 Points and four rebounds. Jacob Crockett followed with 11 Points and four rebounds with three triples. Myles McClain contributed with nine points and five assists.

Point will return to the court for a back-to-back matchup against Cumberland on Saturday, November 4th starting at 2:00 P.M.
