Men’s Basketball moves to 2-0 on the season with a win over the Chargers

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 28, 2023) - The Point University Men's Basketball returned to the court for a nonconference game against Southeastern Baptist College where the Skyhawks took care of business with a 101-73 win. 

Theron Montgomery started the game with the score of the game as he made a layup off the offensive rebound. Justice Hayes followed with a nothing-but-net three-pointer to move their lead to 5-2. Hayes dialed back with another three-pointer as helped keep the Skyhawks ahead over the Chargers. The raining threes continued as Jacob Crockett was next up with a three-pointer of his own for Point to lead 11-5 early in the game. After a made three from the Chargers, Joshua Scott used his strength to make the layup in the paint. As Point continued to settle into their offense, Sam Rees entered the fray with a triple which was followed by a layup from Mike Evans. Rees came back with Robert Kendrick assisting him on the following three-point ball to extend the lead to 22-13. Mike Evans came down the court to push through the lane for a layup and Jacob Crockett added more fuel with three three-pointers on the next three possessions. Point continued to spread the ball around as the inside game was key with Joshua Scott scoring on a layup. Justice Hayes was the next player to have his third made three-pointer in the first half as he helped push Point's lead to 40-25. Myles McClain continued to keep the Chargers guessing as he connected on an assist to Joshua Scott. Southeastern Baptist would score the following two baskets but Kenton Steele halted any chance of a run the Chargers as he scored on the following two layups. Ashton Nance would enter with his presence by scoring on the tip-in layup. As the half continued, Kenton Steele added great energy off the bench by scoring on the layup along with two free throws. Vince Graves and Kenton Steele would score the last two scores for Point as the Skyhawks led 56-35 at the half.  

Cameron Wickline started the half by crashing the boards for the layup off the offensive rebound. The momentum continued with Justice Hayes adding his fourth three-pointer which was followed by a triple from Cameron Wickline. Jacob Crockett continued to light it up behind the arc as he added another triple for the Skyhawks to lead 67-40. Sam Rees looked to join the fun by splashing a three-pointer of his own and he followed up on the next possession with a made jumper. Point continued to dominate each time they touched the ball as Joshua Scott continued to bully his way through the lane. Sam Rees would continue to hear his name called as he made another three-point bomb for Point to lead 81-54. Robert Kendrick added his skills to the team by making a jump shot for Point. As the game continued, Kendrick continued to introduce himself to Skyhawk Nation with a quick first step for the slam dunk to hype up the gym. Joshua Scott continued to add to the deficit with the following two layups. Jacob Crockett finished the game with Point breaking 100 as he made the last two free throws. 

In the Box 

Jacob Crockett and Joshua Scott both led with 17 Points each for the Skyhawks with Crockett adding five three-pointers and Scott adding five rebounds. Justice Hayes followed with 15 Points and two steals. Sam Rees added 14 Points with four made three-pointers.
