Men’s Basketball falls short in matchup against Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (Oct. 29, 2022) - The Point University men's basketball team returned to the court for a non-conference game against the University of Mobile on the road on Saturday evening and fell 72-62.

Mobile jumped in ahead early in the game with a 20-8 lead. The first half was a slow start for the Skyhawks as the Rams were fast-paced and controlled the boards to hold the lead for most of the first half. The Skyhawks started to find some of their rhythm as Theron Montgomery and Ben Ross notched a few layups to now have Point trailing by 13 going into the half.

Point woke up in the second half as Javier Turner started it off for Point with a made layup which was then followed by a made three-pointer from Ben Ross to now trail by single digits. Mobile halted the quick run from Point as Ezra McKenna and Trent Moye made back-to-back layups to push their lead to 40-29. Moye followed up with a three-pointer before the Rams took a quick timeout. The Skyhawks looked to find their way back into making a quick run as Kenton Steele added a layup which was followed by a made three from Jack Gray. Moye continued his stretch of made jump shots, but Gray responded with another as the Skyhawks trailed 58-41. With under 10 minutes, Point now trailed by 11 after multiple made layups from Theapalis Williams. Jack Gray cut it to a single-digit deficit after his third made three in the game. Jake Smith followed with a layup as the Skyhawks now trailed 62-56. Mobile continued to try to pull away from Point as they made free throws along with a tip-in to extend the lead back to 10 points. The Rams ended the contest by winning 72-62 and ended the comeback chances for Point.
