Cortez Thomas’ strong performance on Saturday earns him AAC Defensive Player of the Week

The Junior from Cordele, Georgia, had his best game to date in a Skyhawk uniform as he made the start as the defensive end to tally 10 total tackles (seven solo and three assists), 2.5 sacks, and 4.5 tackles for loss, which ties the AAC record for most TFLs in a game. Off the field, Thomas is a cheerful guy who wants to see his peers in the happiest space, but between the lines, he knows when to lock in. Cortez is not just a player who can play defensive end, as his versatility in playing multiple positions makes his case to be on the field a valuable asset. His strong performance helped the Skyhawks earn the 35-0 win over Kentucky Christian, which resulted in their first shutout in the Coach Zeiders era. Thomas looks to continue his play upfront and prove why he is a player to watch for throughout the season. This is his first weekly honor of the season.
