Skyhawks fall to NCAA Div II, Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. (Sept 2, 2023) - In a challenging matchup, the Point University Skyhawks football team faced off against NCAA Division II powerhouse Valdosta State. Unfortunately, the Skyhawks struggled throughout the game, ultimately falling to Valdosta State with a score of 63 to 10.

 
The statistics of the game reflected Valdosta State's dominance, as they outperformed Point University in nearly every category. Valdosta State had 31 first downs compared to Point's 13, and they gained 647 total yards while limiting Point to just 186 yards. Valdosta State's passing game was particularly strong, amassing 459 passing yards compared to Point's 108.
 
The game had its moments, including a field goal by Christian Ceja at the end of the second quarter, making the score 3-28 in favor of Valdosta State at halftime. In the third quarter, Emery Bryant returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown, giving Point University their first touchdown, but Valdosta State quickly answered with a touchdown pass from Sammy Edwards to B.K. Smith, extending their lead to 35-10.
 
Valdosta State continued to dominate with touchdown passes to Xavier Williams, Isaiah Flowers, and Jerson Jacques in the third and fourth quarters, making the score 42-10, 49-10, and 56-10, respectively. Darius Ocean connected with Jerson Jacques for an 85-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, bringing Valdosta State's lead to 63-10.
 

In the end, Valdosta State emerged as the dominant force on the field, securing a convincing victory. While the outcome wasn't in their favor, the Point University Skyhawks will use this experience as motivation to continue improving and competing at a high level in future games.
