Football unable to hold on to early lead, fall 45-14

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Oct. 9, 2021) – Tyrique Robinson connected with Jacquez Bartley for a 59-yard touchdown to help the Point University football team take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Skyhawks' early momentum was not enough, as Point fell to Faulkner 45-14 Saturday night.

The Skyhawks held onto its lead for the entire first quarter before the Eagles answered in the second quarter, tying the game 7-7. Faulkner went on to take the lead with 6:44 remaining in the half with another touchdown, but Robinson rushed for four yards with 2:49 on the clock to send the game tied 14-14 into the third quarter.

In the second half, the Eagles' offense came alive as Faulkner did not allow Point to score. Faulkner's momentum began with an interception from Chris Thompson that Thompson returned for a 48-yard touchdown. Faulkner scored another touchdown in the third quarter to take a 28-14 lead and connected for a field goal and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Point had 282 yards on offense, with 246 in the air and 36 rushing. Payton Allen took majority of the snaps, completing 21 of 45 passes. Robinson's lone appearance as quarterback connected for Point's opening touchdown, and Brenton White took five snaps and connected with all five attempts.

Sensir Carnes and Robinson had the most action on the ground with six rushing attempts apiece. In the air, Bartley had five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown, and Tim Gary followed with four catches.

Davyon Dukes led Point's defense with six tackles, followed by Aaron Anderson, Kameron Weems and Gabriel Jacon-Duffy with five apiece. Jacon-Duffy recorded three sacks for 17 loss yards.

Up next, the Skyhawks will return home to face in-state rivals Reinhardt University on Saturday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday's game will be a 'Pink Out' in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
