Baseball splits with Reinhardt; wins series

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 26, 2022) – Behind two 2-run home runs from Francisco Garcia and Dillon Brown, the Point University baseball team defeated Reinhardt University 6-2 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader to earn the series victory before dropping game two 5-0.

Game one- Point: 6 Reinhardt: 2

Garcia's home run put Point on top early, as Jakobe Smith reached base on a hit by pitch, and Garcia followed with a shot over the fence in left-center to put Point ahead 2-0. The Eagles would even things up in the top of the third, but Brown would regain the lead for Point with a two-run shot of his own in the bottom of the fifth. Two innings later, an error would bring Brown home and a passed ball would allow Smith to score to help the Skyhawks extend their lead 6-2.

Austin Tebo got the start and the win for the Skyhawks, as he pitched six innings, giving up one hit, two runs (both unearned), walking six and striking out three. Chase Raines came in for relief and earned the save, going 3.0 innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.

The Skyhawks combined for five hits at the plate, with Brown, Smith, Garcia, Jhamante Woods and Jaysen Dower all accounting for one.

Game two- Point: 0 Reinhardt: 5

Where Point looked to earn their first sweep of the season, Reinhardt looked to avoid the shutout in game two, and the Eagles would succeed as they scored three runs in the top of the second and added a run in the fourth and fifth to take a quick 5-0 lead. Point outhit the Eagles 8-7 but could not push a run across despite runners in scoring position in five out of the seven innings.
