Volleyball Sweeps Point and Tennessee Wesleyan to Close out Vette City Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson volleyball closed out play at the Vette City Classic in style with two 3-0 sweeps over Point (Ga.) and Tennessee Wesleyan.

The Blue Raiders played their best volleyball of the season, setting multiple season-high team statistics and a program record hitting percentage across the two matches.

Camryn Rich was the second Blue Raider this weekend to hit a career milestone after picking up her 3,000th assist. She is just the sixth Lindsey Wilson athlete in program history to hit the mark.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Points: 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20)

The Blue Raiders rolled in their opening match racking up 46 kills, led by Alexis Smith who managed 11 as Savanah Pippin just cracked double digits with 10. Smith was effective offensively and finished the match with a .435 hitting percentage and just one error in 23 swings.

Lindsey Wilson's defensive effort was also effective in the match, forcing Point into a .107 hitting percentage. Pippin was also a force at the net, recording a season-high three blocks while Alix Storemer and Smith each chipped in with two. LWC's nine total blocks were also a season-high.

Rich narrowly missed out on her third double-double in as many contests, finishing with 29 assists and nine digs. Madison Bidwell and Elisa Burzio also collected nine digs.

Lindsey Wilson vs. Tennessee Wesleyan: 3-0 (25-9, 25-6, 25-14)

The Blue Raiders picked up their third win of the Vette City Classic to close out their tournament with their best performance yet. The Blue Raiders only trailed in the match twice and for a total of two points across the three sets.

Early in the second set, Rich surpassed the 3,000-career assist mark on a lob to Bidwell which gave LWC an early lead. The play was last for Rich on the day as she finished with 14 assists.

Lindsey Wilson outdid their hitting percentage from the first contest after hitting .783, .643 and .522 across the three sets for a mark of .649. The percentage toppled the previous program best mark for hitting percentage in a match which was set on Aug. 21, 2018, against Fisk at .589.

The Blue Raiders recorded 51 kills on 74 attacks, managing 18, 19 and 14 across the three sets, respectfully. Freshman, Aleksandra Wyrzkowska managed a career-best and team-leading 13 kills as Pippin recorded 11. Monika Szwarc produced her career-high in assists with 16. Embry Burgess recorded a team-high six digs.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Thursday when they compete at the Spartan Invitational in St. Louis, Missouri. The Blue Raiders open play against Midland (Neb.) with the first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. CT
