Volleyball wins in four against Montreat

(Play-by-play 25-22,25-18, 25-17, 25-19) 

Both teams started off trading scores, but the Skyhawks took the early advantage after Sarah Baucham notched a kill to put Point ahead 13-11. Montreat responded after a service error, but Baucham with another kill to push them back ahead by two. Abigail Hardwick joined the fray by attacking the net with a kill of her own. Point looked to continue their firepower on the offensive end, but an attack error gave the Cavaliers the next score. Jadakate Judkins helped add another kill for Point, but a quick 3-0 run from Montreat tied the game at 16. Hardwick stepped up to push the Skyhawks back into the lead, which was then followed by a kill from Baucham. Montreat took the next point after an attack error from the Skyhawks. Point took the next three scores after a kill from Hardwick and Kelsey Turner. A block by Judkins and Hardwick pushed the Skyhawks ahead 24-20. Montreat added the next two scores, but Abigail Hardwick stepped up to finish off the Cavaliers to take the first set. 

The second set started with the same result as the first, with both teams trading scores. The Skyhawks found their rhythm by jumping in front after a kill from Jadakate Judkins. Point took the next three scores with a kill from Baucham, a block from Turner and Baucham, and an attack error from the Cavaliers. Montreat responded with two kills to now trail by three, but Sarah Baucham added a kill to bring the score to 14-10. With the Skyhawks still in the lead, Montreat took added three points to now trail by one. The quick comeback was cut short when the Skyhawks elevated their play by going on a 6-0 run to push their lead to 22-15. An attack error from the Point cooled off their run, but Abigail Hardwick and Sameily Marquez tallied two kills to push their lead to the finish line. After Montreat took the next two scores, Marquez finished the second set with a kill to go up two sets to none. 

Montreat came into the third set in hopes of avoiding a sweep by starting off with a 6-1 lead. After a timeout from the Skyhawks, the Cavaliers continued to build on their lead to push their deficit to eight. Point started to find its rhythm after a service ace from Jordan Palmer and a kill from Kelsey Turner. The Cavaliers were left unfazed when they added a quick 4-0 run to move ahead 17-9. Samiely Marquez and Sarah Baucham added the next two scores for Point with hopes of trying to halt Montreat's hot run. The Cavaliers continued to push ahead, with their lead now at seven points. Kelsey Turner retaliated with a kill for Point, which was followed by a kill from Abigail Hardwick. Montreat avoided the sweep by finishing the set with a final score of 25-17. 

Point looked to shake off the last set by starting off with a 7-4 lead. Montreat held off the Skyhawks by only one more score from them and added four points on their end to tie the game at eight. Both teams started trading scores which resulted in the Cavaliers taking the lead twice in a short span. A service error from Montreat helped the Skyhawks tie the game at 15. Point took the upper edge with a service ace from Emma Parker, which was followed by a kill from Sameily Marquez. Claire Cordell added service to push their lead to 21-17, but a service error gave Montreat the next score. The Skyhawks only allowed one more point from Montreat as they went on a 4-1 run to end the set and win in four. 

In the box 

Sarah Baucham led the Skyhawks with 14 kills, and Abigail Hardwick followed with 13 kills. Sameily Marquez contributed 10 kills. Paige Lowe dished out 46 assists for the Skyhawks. Jordan Palmer anchored the defense with 22 digs, and Whitney Ward added 13 digs.
