Skyhawks unable to cool off No. 20 TMU

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 14, 2022)- The Point University women's soccer team returned to conference play in the River Bowl Stadium for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against Truett McConnell University and fell 5-1.

The Bears started the match off in perfect fashion, scoring two quick goals in the first seven minutes of the game. The hot start set the tone for Truett McConnell as they would let their foot off the gas and limited the Skyhawks to any offensive momentum in the half. Nearing the end of the first period, the Bears scored another goal to extend the lead to 3-0.

To begin the second half, Truett McConnell duplicated their hot start from the first half to the second half with a quick goal to bring their lead to 4-0. The Skyhawks looked to cool the Bears off on offense, but a hat trick by Nadia Ivanchenko brought their lead up to five. Point would not go away in this match in a shutout as Keiry Bonilla put the Skyhawks on the board to end the game with a final score of 5-1.

TMU outshot Point 20-3 as the Bears held the Skyhawks to zero shots on goal in the first half. The Bears had four corner kicks compared to Point's zero. Bonilla scored the only goal for the Skyhawks. In goal, Erica Burkhardt recorded nine saves.

Up next, The Skyhawks will hit the road as they return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Milligan University for another AAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
