Skyhawks Fall to Golden Tigers in OT

SHARPSBURG, Ga. (Oct. 6, 2021) – The Point University women's soccer team faced Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Brenau University Wednesday evening at a neutral site (Trinity Christian School) due to unplayable field conditions at River Bowl Stadium. Although it was a hard-fought match, the Skyhawks could not come out with the victory as they fell to the Golden Tigers 2-1 in overtime. Point's record falls to 3-6-1 and 3-3-1 in conference play.

Brenau got off to a hot start as Camila Penagos scored the first goal of the day within the first two minutes. Point later responded in the 23rd minute with a goal by Keiry Bonilla assisted by Kelly Carlisle. Point would take two more shots in the first half, with both ending in goalie saves.

It was a quiet second half as neither team could find the back of the net, which would take the match into overtime. Brenau would go on to score the golden goal after a deflected corner kicked allowed Itzel Rivera to find the back of the net. Despite the outcome

Despite the loss, Point's offense maintained control for majority of the match, as the Skyhawks outshot the Golden Tigers 18-12, forcing Brenau's goalie to make nine stops. Carmen Kager led Point's offense with six shots.

Up next, the Skyhawks will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, to face AAC newcomer Johnson University on Saturday, Oct. 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
