Carlisle's goal helps Point defeat Bryan 1-0

DAYTON, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2021) – The Point University women's soccer team traveled to face Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bryan College Saturday afternoon and earned their third victory of the season with a 1-0 win over the Lions.

It was a quiet first half as both teams entered the second half scoreless, but senior Kelly Carlisle put the Skyhawks on the board with three minutes remaining in the second half, proving to be all the scoring Point would need as the Lions were unable to answer Carlisle's late goal. Carmen Kager earned the assists on Carlisle's goal, marking her third assist of the season.

Point proved to be the aggressor in the game outshooting Bryan 17-7, forcing Bryan's goalkeeper Carlie Mason to make six saves. Both Carlisle and Kager led the shot attempts for the Skyhawks with five shots apiece, three on goal for Carlisle and two on goal for Kager. Carlisle currently leads the team with five goals and Kager leads the team with 27 shots and 16 shots on goal.

"Solid all-around performance today," Head Coach Randy Douglas said. "Bryan is a tough team to break down and have a high work rate, so this win was well deserved. I'm happy that we kept our work rate and eventually got the winner. A gritty game that was going to be decided by the first goal."

With Saturday's win, the Skyhawks improve to 3-5-1 on the season.

Next, Point returns to River Bowl Stadium to face another conference foe, the Brenau Golden Tigers, on Wednesday, Oct. 6, scheduled for 7 p.m.
