Women’s lacrosse falls in quarterfinal round of AAC tournament

WALESKA, Ga. (April 14, 2022) – The Point University women's lacrosse team faced St. Andrews in the quarterfinal round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament Thursday morning and fell to the Knights 19-3.

On the field

Despite the Skyhawks being the first team on the scoreboard, St. Andrews would follow with 10 unanswered goals in the first quarter to take a 10-1 lead. Maddie Donnelly would connect for Point's game-opening goal, assisted by Kelli Grimsley. Point's defense would limit the Knights to just two goals in the second quarter, and SAU would enter the second half leading 12-1.

In the third quarter, St. Andrews would open the half with three goals before Victoria Cortes would score Point's second goal of the contest with 3:34 remaining. The Knights would score two goals in the final minute and a half and lead 17-2 at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Skyhawks would limit St. Andrews to two goals, and Mya Sterling would score her first goal of the season in between SAU's goals.

In the box

Donnelly's goal came off her only shot attempt. She also recorded two ground balls and one draw control. Cortes recorded one goal, five shots (all on goal), six ground balls, and two draw controls. Grimsley recorded an assist, two shots (one on goal), six ground balls, and three draw controls. Sterling's goal also came off her only shot attempt. She added three ground balls to her stat line. Destinie Claggion assisted Sterling's goal, took one shot attempt, and had one ground ball.

Kayla Bone recorded 11 saves.

Point finishes its season 2-15.
