Geathers’ career-high helps women’s lacrosse to victory

DACULA, Ga. (March 31, 2022) – Behind a career-high seven goals from Kaelyn Geathers, the Point University women's lacrosse team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Brenau University 10-8 Thursday evening at Duncan Creek Park.

Brenau scored the first goal of the game before the Skyhawks answered with three goals, the first from Geathers and the final two from Kelli Grimsley, to help Point enter the second quarter ahead 3-1. Brenau's Hannah Gray would bring Point's lead back within one to open the second frame, but Grimsley would connect for her third goal to extend Point's back out to two (4-2). With a minute remaining before the break, Gray would score her second goal of the quarter, making the score 4-3 at halftime.

Out of the break, Geathers would connect for back-to-back goals to help the Skyhawks go ahead by three, but Brenau would cut the score back to two entering the fourth quarter (6-4).

In the final frame, both teams would connect for four goals apiece, with Brenau connecting for the first goal of the quarter to cut Point's lead down to one (6-5). Geathers would answer every goal the Golden Tigers would score and scored the final goal of the game with 1:34 remaining.

Geathers' seven goals came off 16 shots (13 on frame). Grimsley followed with three goals off eight shots (six on frame). Victoria Cortes and Destinie Claggion led the team with five ground balls apiece. In goal, Kayla Bone had eight saves.

Point is now 2-11 (2-3 AAC) with Thursday's win.

The Skyhawks will be back in action Saturday, in their final home game of the season, as they host Montreat College at 3 p.m.
