Women’s lacrosse drops AAC contest to SAU

WEST POINT, Ga. (March 21, 2022) – The Point University women's lacrosse team hosted St. Andrews University Monday afternoon in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup and fell to the Knights 16-6.

The Knights, who received votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, advanced their record to 3-5 (2-1 AAC) while the Skyhawks fell to 1-8 (1-2 AAC).

The Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and would add two goals in the second quarter before Point's Kaelyn Geathers scored to get the Skyhawks on the scoreboard. The Knights would score four more goals in the second quarter to enter the second half leading 11-1.

Point's Sydney Hanna would bring the score back within single digits with a goal to start the third quarter, but St. Andrews would follow with three goals to enter the final frame leading 14-2.

The Skyhawks would open the fourth quarter with three goals, the first from Geathers, followed by back-to-back goals from Kelli Grimsley, making the score 14-5. St. Andrews would answer with back-to-back goals before Geathers would score the game's final goal with less than two minutes remaining.

Geathers led Point with three goals, seven shots, five on frame and three ground balls. Grimsley followed with two goals, four shots, three on goal and nine ground balls. Hanna had one goal off four shots, two on frame and two ground balls. Victoria Cortes recorded an assist on Geathers' final goal. In goal, Kayla Bone recorded 16 saves.

Next, Point travels to face in-state AAC foe Brenau on Wednesday, March 23, at 5 p.m.
