WEST POINT, Ga. (March 5, 2022) – The Point University women's lacrosse team hosted Truett McConnell Saturday afternoon in their Appalachian Athletic Conference home opener and defeated the Bears 9-8.

Point opened Saturday's contest with two goals within one minute, the first from Kelli Grimsley and the second from Victoria Cortes. TMU cut Point's lead in half with less than 10 minutes remaining, but Point extended their lead back out with two goals, the first from Sydney Hanna and the second from Grimsley. With less than three minutes remaining, the Bears cut Point's lead in half again, making the score 4-2 entering the second period.

Grimsley opened the second quarter with her third goal of the game, but the Bears answered to cut the score back within two (5-3). Hanna connected for her second goal of the game less than 30 seconds later and Cortes connected for her second goal of the game less than a minute later to help Point go ahead 7-3. With four seconds left in the half, TMU brought the score back within three with a goal from Hope Frady.

In the third quarter, the Bears connected for two goals to start the quarter to bring the score within one (7-6), but freshman Maddie Donnelly connected for the first goal of her career with 2:19 left in the quarter to help put the Skyhawks back ahead by two. Once again, in the fourth quarter, the Bears scored back-to-back goals, this time tying the game 8-8, but a free position shot from Cortes with 3:14 left would find the back of the net and send the Skyhawks on to victory.

Grimsley led Point in shot attempts, with 12 shots, 10 on goal and added nine ground balls to her stat line. Kaelyn Geathers followed in shot attempts with six on goal and added five ground balls.
