Point remains undefeated with win over Southeastern Baptist

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 16, 2021) – Senior guard Iyanna McMillan matched her season-high of 21 points to help lead the Point University women's basketball team to a 91-63 nonconference victory over Southeastern Baptist Tuesday evening inside West Point Park Gymnasium.

With the win Point is now 6-0 on the season.

McMillan shot 7-for-17 from the field and knocked down four three-pointers to lead Point's offense. Both Sheyvonne Owens and Marta Gimenez followed with 17 points apiece. Owens managed to record her second double-double of the season, adding 10 rebounds to her stat line. Gimenez also proved to be very efficient, shooting 5-for-8 from the field, 2-for-3 from the 3-point arc, and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Gimenez also added eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals to her stat line. Nicole Izuagie rounded out the Skyhawks in double figures with 10 points and added five rebounds.

The Skyhawks helped force 23 Charger turnovers.

Early on, Point asserted themselves as they jumped out to a 10-3 lead over the Chargers. The Skyhawks continued on the attack by stretching out the lead to double-digits by the end of the first quarter. The Chargers were able to cut the lead as close as six points, but this would be a close as they would get as the Skyhawks would go on a 15-5 run sparked by a three-pointer by McMillan. Point would continue to pull further away to end the first half leading 48-33.

In the second half, the Skyhawks pushed their lead to 21 points off a made layup by Hannah Williams and never looked back. Point would maintain control for the remainder of the game and extended their lead to as many as 34 points.

Up next, Point will be on the road as they travel to Barbourville, Ky. to face Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Union College on Saturday, Nov. 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
