Softball’s season ends against TMU in AAC tournament

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (April 28, 2022) – The Point University softball team faced Truett McConnell in an elimination game in the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament Thursday morning and fell to the Bears 13-5 in five innings.

After the Bears came out and scored two runs in the top of the first, Point answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-2 lead. Back-to-back singles from Taylor Knight and Asia Jones would score the first three runs, and a bases-loaded walk by Ariyon Hightower would score Gabrielle Riley.

Point's lead, however, would be short-lived as TMU scored five runs in the top of the second. The Skyhawks would cut Truett's lead back down to two following an RBI single from Jones to score Brianna Plocharczyk, but that was all the scoring the Bears would allow Point to do, as Truett extended its lead with one run in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth. Truett's second run in the fifth put the run rule into effect following a scoreless bottom half from the Skyhawks.

The Bears outhit Point 14-8. The Skyhawks were led at the plate by Jones, who went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Plocharczyk, who was 2-for-4. Devin Foster, Riley, Knight and Alexus Griffin each recorded a hit.

Katelyn Jiles suffered the loss as she went three innings and gave up seven hits, nine runs (seven earned) and struck out two.

With Thursday's loss, the Skyhawks finish the season 32-20.
