Softball drops tight contest to Reinhardt in quarterfinal round of AAC tournament

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (April 26, 2022) – No. 7 Point University softball faced No. 2 Reinhardt University in the Appalachian Athletic Conference quarterfinal round Tuesday evening and fell to the Eagles 2-1.

Tuesday's contest was one of the quickest games of the season for the Skyhawks, as the game lasted one hour and 18 minutes.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first as Reinhardt reached base following an error and then brought that runner home on a sacrifice fly. The Skyhawks quickly answered in the top of the second, as Gabrielle Riley led off with a double to left field and was brought home following an RBI single from Chelsea Parker.

The score would remain locked 1-1 over the next three innings before the Eagles added a run in the bottom of the sixth, following a sacrifice fly, and the Skyhawks were unable to answer in the top of the seventh.

The Skyhawks combined for seven hits, with Riley and Parker each going 2-for-3. Parker recorded the only RBI for Point. Devin Foster, Brianna Plocharczyk and Asia Jones each recorded a hit. Ashlynn Hamm tossed a complete game for Point suffering her eighth loss of the season as she went six innings, giving up seven hits, two runs (one earned) and striking out three.

Up next, the Skyhawks will face No. 6 Milligan in an elimination game tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Kingsport, Tenn.
