Skyhawks earn nonconference sweep over Agnes Scott

WEST POINT, Ga. (March 19, 2022) – The Point University softball team hosted Agnes Scott Saturday afternoon in a nonconference doubleheader and defeated the Scotties 8-0 in game one and 2-0 in game two.

Game 1: Point: 8, ASC: 0

After a scoreless top of the first for the Scotties, the Skyhawks jumped out to an early lead due to a two-run home run by Haley Lyner. Point would extend its lead out 6-0 in the bottom of the second, with Meagan Pildner starting things off with a sacrifice fly to bring home Taylor Knight. An error would allow Chelsea Parker, making the score 4-0, and back-to-back hits from Brianna Plocharczyk and Haley Lyner would score Foster and Plocharczyk.  

In the fourth inning, Asia Jones added to Point's lead with a single up the middle to score Plocharczyk, and the Skyhawks would earn their final run, putting the run-rule into effect in the fifth inning, following a double to left center from Allie Davis to score McKensie Barnes.

Point was led by Lyner, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and connected for her fourth home run of the season. Plocharczyk went 2-for-2 and scored three times. Knight went 2-for-2 and Parker went 1-for-2. Mary Burnham pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up two hits and earning three strikeouts. Point scored eight runs on nine hits and held Agnes Scott to just four hits. 

Game 2: Point: 2, ASC: 0

After four scoreless innings, the Skyhawks were able to get two runs on the scoreboard following an error that allowed Parker to reach home and Devin Foster followed with a double to right center to score Alexus Griffin. The Skyhawks would hold Agnes Scott scoreless for the remainder of the contest to earn the sweep.

Katelyn Jiles and Ashlynn Hamm combined for the shutout, with Jiles earning the start and win, going 5.0 innings, giving up two hits, one walk and striking out five. Hamm went 2.0 innings, giving up one hit, one walk and striking out one.

Plocharczyk led Point's offense, going 2-for-3. Foster, Jones, Riley, Knight and Parker all accounted for a hit.
